 DIRECTOR OF MUSIC JOB DESCRIPTION

                                                                  St. Luke Lutheran Church, Gilbertsville, PA



Overview


The director of music plans and coordinates the music life of our congregation. This would include worship services and any special music programs or events. The director is a part of the Worship and Music Committee, supports the director of handbell choir, and consults with the minister in performing this ministry.


Skills and Talents


Experience in organ and/or piano.

Preferred experience in a choir.

A love of music and willingness to share that love with others.

Exhibits sensitivity and responsibility for the worship life of our church community.

Encourages and recruits vocalists and instrumentalists to share their musical gifts in the worship and community life of the congregation.

Maintains. in concert with the church office, the purchase of all printed musical materials and licensing agreements for the choir and congregation within the provisions of the budget, and manages an organized choir music library.


Responsibilities


Accompanies the congregation with music at all regularly scheduled worship services and the following worship services during the year: Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, mid-week evenings during Lent, Maundy Thursday evening, Good Friday evening, Thanksgiving Eve and other additional services mutually agreed upon by the Director of Music and the Worship and Music Committee.

Reviews bulletins before printing.

Monitors the condition of all keyboard and hand instruments (except handbells) and reports the need for any maintenance or repair to the Worship and Music Committee.

Has first right of refusal of all music for weddings and funerals held at St. Luke, and subject to availability, accompanies music for weddings and funerals.

Participates in staff meetings.

Supports and practices the Safe Place Policy of St. Luke.

Arranges for a substitute during times of vacation.

Communicates via email any circumstances that arise when time off is needed to the following: minister, Church Council Executive Committee and Worship and Music Committee chair.

Participates in an annual performance review through the Mutual Ministry Committee of the congregation.
